'As I walked out......' an eight week epic journey with four donkeys, chickens, carts, children, young people and of course artists walking across the six districts of our county.
Fairgame Theatre in partnership with SVA are delivering this extraordinary art based project this summer.
The whole journey will be led by an experienced project manager and in each district a commissioned artist will work with community groups delivering inspirational arts initiatives inspired by the walking, the landscape, the views and the outside environment. These artists will share a passion for the landscape; and their role will be to encourage people to appreciate their county and explore their own creativity.
An important and unique part of this project will be the careful use of four pack animals who will carry personal belongings, provisions and camping equipment. This addition as well as a fantastic resource for artistic stimulus will ensure that our proposed project has the lowest carbon footprint possible.
People from all walks of life from across the community will be invited to join the journey at any stage.
They can come for as little or as long as they want.
You can access the project in a multitude of ways; it could be a sabbatical for professionals, a sponsored walk, a family day out, a short break for families and so on.
Although the plan is for the journey to be a continuous one throughout the county in each of the six districts there will be a designated public camp where people can join the project for a nights camping.
At each of these camps the visual artist will create an impermanent environmental art installation inspired by the walking and the landscape.
From these camps there will also be specific and structured guided short walks that will be open to anyone.
This project is funded by Gloucestershire County Council through the six district councils and has been awarded the Inspire mark.

As I Walked Out is part of the Quest, a region-wide programme for the Cultural Olympiad, led by Desperate Men and Cirque Bijou. Their performance journey through the South West, culminating in Weymouth and Portland for the start of the Olympic sailing events in 2012, will provide a showcase for the best work being produced in the region.
As I Walked Out in Gloucestershire provides an opportunity to engage with the Quest's central creative theme of What's YOUR Quest? - a challenge to individuals, communities, organisations and schools to go the extra mile and do something different in the lead up to London 2012.

Lyn Wait and Louise Gilbert Scott
District One: Stroud
Lyn and Lou will use this walk to contemplate and unravel the origins of Stroud Valleys Woollen Industry. As we journey we will collect Words, Wool and Fullers earth clay amongst others. These are some of the starting clues we have to engage with its history and create a visual drama with our travelling companions along the route.
Workshops
Come and visit us at the public camps to join in the workshops and play with the raw materials and words we have collected. This will involve dying and stretching wool, making charcoal, messing with clay, making dung pancakes (not for eating), constructing frames to contain/frame the countryside, AND HAVING LOTS OF FUN.
